“Evidence suggests that, in addition to regular nursing care, continuous one-to-one emotional support provided by support personnel, such as a doula, is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor.” -American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology

About South Dakota Doulas

South Dakota Doulas was begun in the early 2000’s as a project by a student midwife. She wanted a website that connects the community and doulas.

Doulas have been able to list their services at no cost on the website so that communities have access to contact information for doulas near them.

In 2017, a group of doulas began administering the website, as well as hosting local Meet the Doulas events, in which the community could learn more about the doula role and meet doulas in a convenient location.

In 2023, the not-for-profit will officially become a 501c3 in order to build a beautiful / accessible website, reach more communities, provide continuing education for advanced doulas, and train new doulas.

The mission: Connecting families to our birth community.
